You Gotta See This Car!
Chassis HU-27 driven by Mario Andretti in the 1990 CART PPG IndyCar World Series as his primary road course cr over 11 races.
1990 was Lola’s most successful season in IndyCar racing, although it had won the Championship twice before; it was never with this level of dominance. The Lola T90/00, introduced in 1990, incorporated a honeycomb composite monocoque with a carbon-fiber upper section and an aluminum-skinned lower section. This design was a step forward in utilizing carbon fiber in racing.
This Kmart/Texaco Havoline livery also represents an innovation in motorsports sponsorship and marketing, with a wide variety of Kmart’s product vendors represented. Paul Newman and Carl Haas’ marketing guru, Ralph Hansen, came up with this idea. This concept remains a mainstay in motorsport sponsorship today.
This epic car will be on display during An Evening with Sarah Fisher, benefiting the Wings and Wheels Foundation, at the Concourse of Hilton Head at the end of October.
