Movie Night
Last night was movie night, so I finally took some well-deserved downtime to watch a movie that’s been on my list for a while. I had been eagerly anticipating it, as it seemed like the perfect way to unwind after a busy week. As part of my self-care routine, I wanted to indulge in cinematic entertainment that would offer both enjoyment and inspiration.
Recently, I watched a couple of movie trailers for the new F1 movie starring Brad Pitt. As trailers go, this one looked good right out of the gate, and the movie was everything I hoped.
2-1/2 Hours of Adrenaline — F1 Style
F1 (marketed as F1: The Movie) is a 2025 American sports drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt.
Set against the backdrop of a thrilling racing season, the film captures not just the sport’s adrenaline, but also the profound relationship between mentor and mentee.
The film follows a veteran racing phenom who comes out of retirement to mentor a hotshot rookie prodigy, becoming a major cinematic event praised for its visceral realism and groundbreaking production techniques.
The story centers on Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a dominant Formula One driver from the 1990s whose career stalled after a devastating crash. Haunted by regret and self-doubt, Sonny’s journey reflects a deeper narrative about redemption and the relentless pursuit of greatness.
Thirty years later, his old friend and team owner Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem) coaxes him out of retirement to join the fictional, struggling Apex Grand Prix (APXGP) team.
Initially reluctant to embrace the modern world of racing, Sonny slowly discovers the innovative strategies and technologies that have transformed the sport. Hayes mentors Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a fiercely ambitious rookie prodigy.
Their journey is fraught with trials that test their resolve, ultimately leading to a climactic showdown that will redefine both their careers and legacies. As the duo fights for grid position against the sport’s titans, Hayes confronts his past while navigating an intense, high-stakes rivalry in which his own teammate is his fiercest competitor.
With stunning visuals and a powerful soundtrack, F1 challenges audiences to consider the sacrifices made in the pursuit of glory.
Production and Technical Virtuosity
The film’s hallmark is its unparalleled realism. Filming took place on location during real Grand Prix weekends over the 2023 and 2024 World Championships. The crew worked seamlessly inside the live paddock alongside actual F1 teams and drivers, choreographing racing sequences to the split second.
To pull audiences into the cockpit, the production used custom-designed, high-resolution 4K cameras built to withstand intense race environments, capturing spectacular 16-angle shots. For dangerous crash or spin sequences, the production used precision tech—such as nitrogen rams and multi-angle 360-degree rotor rigs—to capture genuine physical impact without sacrificing real stunt work.
