Nathan Nicholson Set to Make Second NASCAR Truck Series Appearance

TeamWWF Driver Ambassador Focusing on "Putting Whole Race Together"

Figuratively speaking, a whirlwind is a hectic, fast-paced — and sometimes chaotic — series of events. That is how Nathan Nicholson described his debut with the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

In addition to competing in Rounds 3-4 of the Mazda MX-5 Cup, Nicholson made his NASCAR debut on the Streets of St. Petersburg at the end of February. It was the first-ever street race for the series in over 30 years of competition.

My first NASCAR Truck Series race was an absolute whirlwind,” Nicholson said. “The intensity of the environment and racing was insane. Going into this weekend, my focus is on putting the whole race together. Keeping the car fast and making it faster through the first two stages to put myself in a good spot for the final 10 laps of the race.”

Nicholson recently visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for testing with the MX-5 Cup and has spent the last several weeks preparing for Friday’s NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International in New York.

“The past couple of weeks I’ve been trying to prepare the best I can for this event physically and mentally,” he said. “Lots of sim work (racing simulator) and watching videos of years past to see how the race ebbs and flows.”

Friday’s race will begin at 4:30 p.m. You can watch it on FS1. Practice (11 a.m.) and qualifying (12:05 p.m.) will take place earlier in the day and can be viewed on FS2.

Thirty-eight race trucks are entered into the event on the 2.45-mile road course.

“I’m super excited to have the opportunity to be back in the #76 Freedom Racing Enterprises Whelen Engineering Chevy Silverado,” Nicholson said. “Everyone in the program knows what we are capable of — it’s just time to prove it!”

Nicholson’s final appearance this year with the NASCAR Truck Series will be June 19 in San Diego.
